If you are planning to work a winter season this page aims to provide signposts to all the resources you might need.

Ski jobs can be usually live-in jobs with accommodation and meals provided but there are also lots of non-residential opportunities where you need to find your own accommodation.


SEASONAIRE ACCOMMODATION

Find affordable season-long accommodation in the mountains. Here are just a few of the specialist providers that might be able to help you find your seasonal accommodation:

Live The Season offer 2100 properties in 50 different resorts.

SkiPierdor specialise in shared seasonal accommodation in Val d'Isere.

SeasonBeds specialise in season-long accommodation in Val Thorens.

Cimalpes offer long-season properties to rent in the resorts of Morzine, Meribel and Chamonix.


COOKERY SCHOOLS

Attend a pre-season cookery course to gain cooking skills and improve your chances of securing a job as a chalet host.

The Orchards School of Cookery offer 5 days or 2 week courses in Worcestershire. They provide students with three week, five course menu plans, including vegetarian options and children’s meals with detailed recipes and time plans for cooking at altitude.

The Avenue Cookery School offer 1 or 2 week courses in Wandsworth, SW London. The course covers all vital aspects of working as a Chalet Host, including but not limited to, cooking techniques, budgeting, how to host your chalet and the ever-important cleaning!

Snowcooks offer chalet host cookery courses in the french village of Peisey Vallandry. Course run from June to November and cover all aspects of cooking and hosting  a ski chalet.


INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Training providers offer internationally recognised ski or snowboard instructor qualifications in the mountains.

BASI, the British Association of Snowsport Instructors is a UK based membership association responsible for the training and licensing of snowsport instructors and coaches. BASI work with contracted Business Partners to promote and sell the BASI qualification system. It also manages a Quality Assurance Scheme for snowsports schools around the world - The BASI Approved Ski School scheme. 

EA Ski & Snowboard Training offer courses that combine certified instructor training with paid work placements for successful trainees. They offer courses in resorts in Canada, USA, Japan, New Zealand and Europe.


TRAVEL TO RESORT

Travel to the mountains by plane, train or automobile! Here are a few useful links to help you make plans!

Skyscanner provides a one-stop service to search multiple airlines by location and date range.

Le Shuttle offers 24/7 drive-on, drive-off trains through the channel tunnel from Folkestone with easy links to motorway or main road routes tp the Alps.

Eurostar run scheduled daily services to Paris where it's easy to pick up a connection to the Alps. They also run a direct Ski Train service to the Alps in the winter months - Set off from London St Pancras International, grab a connection at Lille Europe, and hop off at Chambéry, Albertville, Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-Les-Bains, Aime-la-Plagne, or Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Ski trains will depart from London St Pancras International every Saturday between 21 December 2024 and 1 March 2025 and return from the Alps every Sunday morning between 29 December 2024 and 2 March 2025.


SEASONAIRE INSURANCE

MPI Brokers provide season workers with specialist cover that  has no days limit within the insured period. It covers skiing or snowboarding on or off-piste (with our without a guide), local ski racing and skiing in snow parks plus working cover.

Ski Cover and JS Travel Insurance also provide policies designed for ski season workers.


WORK PERMITS / VISAS

Ski jobs in the European Alps are normally only available to EU nationals or non-UK / EU nationals with a valid work permit. In France there are now more opportunities for British Nationals with a scheme that allows employers to apply for a work permit on behalf of suitable candidates.
