play, rest and work in le corbier

If you are working in Le Corbier for the winter then this is just about the only guide to the resort you will find!

Corbier (and Toussiere) are medium sized purpose built resorts which could hardly be described as the prettiest in the Alps. But don't let that put you off!

There's some great nightlife and, conditions permitting, some superb off-piste.

Bars and Clubs
Corbier has a good choice of Bars considering its size, these are often busy
due to the resort being mainly apartments (and 1 hotel). Most nights they are
really lively and full of Dutch and Danish.

Le Pub Ski Roc - Lively wood clad pub serving frothy pints and wierd fruit
beers. Live music sometimes and spectacular 100ff drinks all night deals. Be
warned they may get you to ride the stairs on a snowboard.
Le Yeti - Wants to be an American diner, usually a locals' hang out, good
place to watch football. DJ evenings most weeks.
Le Roche Blanche - Bar behind restaurant, very chilled out, sit round a
circular brass fireplace.
Le Fontaine d' l'ours- Very Dark, Very Loud Music. Desperados on tap, Go here to watch the Dutch being football hooligans. Usually the desision making
point of the evening...if you don't pass out here you might make it to the
next bar.
Le President - Bar/Club with dancefloor and DJ box (though i swear they play
CDs most of the time. Expensive Drinks but good pool tables and sometimes
good promo's on shooters.
GoGo Bar - Dutch run and populated bar. Football songs, idiots wearing
football shirts back to front, Opera singer type women and Fake Vodka/RedBull. If someone doesn't pick a fight with you here then you're Dutch or female.
Le Sweet Club - Corbier's only proper nightclub, known to stay open 'till you
should be at work! Hip Hop, Trance and House music, though if the DJ likes
you enough he will hand the decks to you! Wicked Bar staff and door men, but
expensive drinks.
St Moritz - Quiet frindly bar, usually locals. Good food.

Off-piste*
Unfortunately Corbier had a bad snow year this year so we didn't get to sample as much of the extensive off piste as we would have liked, though magazines from last year show some awesome powder and steeps.
St Sorlin Run - Take the Chair to the top, go straight ahead along the ridge till you find yourself above a wide valley on the left, point yourself towards St Sorlin d'Arves and have fun.
Toussiere Link -Again go to the top, go right, under the poma and follow the gully down, careful though, theres alot of dodgy cliffs around!
Off the top, Toussiere - Take the poma lifts to the back of the Valley and traverse accross to the couliers above town, pick your route and go, careful though prone to sliding!!

Moguls
There are no real moguls in Corbier but by 3pm half the runs have turned to them!!!!

Speed
Corbier is a good resort for speed as it is mainly red and Blue runs.

Snowparks
There is one Snowpark in Corbier, facing the piste front gallery, this year it had 3 kickers and some rails, plus its own rope tow. The top of the mountain usually turns into freestyle heaven with natural Lips and dodgy Kickers.

Events
There are a lot of Freestyle/Big Air comps running in Corbier but this year
most were cancelled due to poor snow levels.

Famous visitors
Jean Noel Augert (World Champion slalom racer) owns and runs the Intersport
and the St Moritz here.

Away Days
St Jean d' Maurienne is 20-40mins away by bus and has supermarkets, boutiques and a swimming pool. Further afield Chambery is only 2hrs away by train from St Jean. If you fancy a change in skiing, the Three valleys is easily accesible via the telecabin from Orelle, just down the valley.

Internet Cafés
Unfortunately Corbier has no internet link, however the tourist office in
Toussiere (5 mins by Bus) has a machine which you use a phonecard with.

Eating Out
When you're tired of eatin' staff food and left overs heres where you can munch some real food:

Le Bouille - French food, quite cheap.
Rocher Blanche - Good Pizzas and Fondues.
Le Alpage - The Best Savoire food in Cobier, but you feel real fat afterwards!
St Moritz - Good Steaks and reasonable lunchtime specials.
Le Yeti - Nice Pizza and steaks too.

Mountain Restos
When Huger strikes prematurely and you have to eat up there, these are your
options:

Le Charmun (Mid station)
Le Arves (Top left of ski area)
Le Marmotte (Mid station then right)

McDonalds
The closest Macca's is in Chambery (and you get salad with your meal!)

Transfers
Changeover day can last all day here, the bus has to go all the way to Turin and back. Unfortunately it seems to always make it up the hill also.

Living
If you are doing a season here you will almost certainly living in an
apartment. Whilst a bit dated they are all right to live in. Be aware of your neighbours, we kept gettin notes about music volume!!!!! Oops!!!
