A drop in temperatures
and some significant snowfalls over the weekend heralded
the start of winter to come for New Zealand's premier
ski areas.
Canterbury's
Mt Hutt ski area received at least 30 centimetres
of snow on Sunday, May 7, from a cold southerly airstream
bringing the first significant snowfall of the 2000
season.
In
Queenstown, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski areas
received 10-15cm of snow.
Both Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt are scheduled to open
in early June. The Remarkables is scheduled to open
in late June.
