BRECK PUB CRAWL ATTRACTS 400 MANIACS

19 March 2000

The St Patrick's Day Pub Crawl in Breckenridge attracted over 400 competitors and was won by Russell Backhouse in a time of 11 minutes and 8 seconds.

The contest requires competitors to consume a green beer at 10 pubs, then return to the
start/finish line across Ridge Street from Fatty’s.  This year’s participating pubs included Fatty’s, Shamus O’Toole’s, Clancy’s, Salt Creek, Gold Pan, Horseshoe II, Bubba’s Bones, the Alligator Lounge, Liquid Lounge and Rasta Pasta.

Official reports claimed that "Backhouse puked a bit upon finishing.  Running the Breck Pub Crawl was a way for Backhouse to prepare for another, more serious contest - next month’s Imperial Challenge, where competitors bicycle a few miles before skinning or snowshoeing up Peak 8 prior to a descent by skis or snowboard.

“This is the first half of a double, and this was the easy part,” Backhouse said. “And I am feeling fit, because I am training for the Imperial Challenge, which is April 15.”
