Details have emerged behind the sudden
closing of the Pub Doran and Scotts.
Natives understands that the two establishments
were recently reviewed by local inspectors who decided that
they should be classified under a different 'licence'
from their current agreement. The move to a Licence
3 from Licence 5 requires an advanced specification of Health
and Safety requirements.
The local authorities offered no extra
time to the Hotel Doron to upgrade their current (and quite
legal) measures and demanded that all guests staying in
the hotel were moved out within 48 hours.
The exact rationale behind this decision
remains open. Regular visitors to this page will be
aware of the increasing pressure British businesses have
been placed under by the local authorities.
While within the letter of the law, it seems that Méribel
again may have been over-zealous. Natives will continue
to follow up this issue.
[17 March - It now seems likely that
Scotts will not reopen and the Hotel will be unable to accommodate
guests for the remainder of the season. Le Pub will
continue as per usual.]
