BRANSTON PICKLE AND WALKERS CRISPS

  28 February 2000

Anyone who has ever worked a season will know the longings you get for the creature comforts of home.  Whether it's Walkers Porkers, Chunky Branston Pickle or just a loaf of 'real' bread, everyone has something on their list for friends to bring out (see Peter the Perfect Punter).

When Andy Aitken was ski-bumming in Courchevel five years ago he reckoned there was a gap in the market just waiting to be filled.  And so he did just that.  Now 'L'Ile Verte' imports all of your favourites out fill those hungry mouths several times every winter.

'I love seeing their eyes light up when I unload a carton of Creme Eggs or a hunk of Cheddar Cheese,' Andy told Natives recently.  What other products were in demand, we wondered?  'Branston Pickle is obviously a favourite, as is baked beans and cranberry juice.  I would love to import Red Bull as well, but it's still illegal in France!'

'L'Ile Verte' (the green island) also supplies chalet companies with specialist Thai, Japanese and Mexican products to add variety to the evening meal.  With over 50 customers in the Tarentaise and expansion planned for next winter, Andy seems well on his way to becoming yet another ski bum to have found his niche.
