Several specialist operators such as Wasteland
and On The Piste recently received a letter from the Val
d'Isere tourist office warning them away from bringing large
student groups to the resort.
As student groups tend only to come during
the lowest of the low season, local suppliers fear the resort
is cutting off its nose to spite its face. Were it
not for these groups in January and particularly early-December
the resort would be much quieter.
Perhaps silence is the literal goal - but
for many it is just another example of the heavy-handed
way that the French deal with the British 'youth' (see Méribel
news for more examples).
