LIZ MILLER CLOSES IN ON PARALYMPICS

08 June 2005

Natives are very proud of all of our sponsored riders, and Liz Miller is no exception. She has some fabulous news to share...

Paralympic selection
"The good news is in - I have been pre-selected for the Paralympics!!! Pre-selection means that I have qualified according to the British Paralympic Association guidelines. These guidelines stated that in order to compete in the 2006 Winter Paralympics the competitor needs to have 150 points or lower. I have managed this in both disciplines – technical and speed thus can be selected to compete in all the events (Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill) in Turin.

"The formal announcement of the team will take place on Friday 10 June at the Italian Embassy in London. The International Paralympic Committee have confirmed that there is one place on the British Team for a female racer to attend the Games. Therefore it is looking very good for me!!!

Championship titles 2005
"The British Adaptive Ski Championships took place in Meribel last March. The weather was glorious but a little too nice - a number of races had to be cancelled due to the soft snow. The races ran together with the British Land National Ski Championships for the adult able- bodied racers.

"I won the Ladies Downhill title skiing only 7 seconds slower than some of the able-bodied racers. Attempts to run the Super G failed and unfortunately due to the very soft snow it was deemed too dangerous to run a speed event. Unfortunately I did not manage to finish the Giant Slalom, but Friday saw the last race of the week – Slalom.

"This went well (beating all the male and female disabled skiers) and hence I won the title of the British Adaptive Ladies Slalom Champion. I even managed to beat one of the able bodied racers! Because of my two wins at this race event I was crowned the British Adaptive Ladies overall Ski Champion. All in all, a very successful week!

Summer 2005 training
"I am heading over to New Zealand to carry on with my training. There are no disabled races out there, but it will give me the chance to concentrate solely on my training before the races next winter season.

I shall keep you posted on my news from New Zealand. Thank you once again everyone, for all your help."
