Forty
competitors from around France
hit the Magic Dedern ski and snowboard comp in Meribel on a hot
cloud free day for the third year of this competition. Last year
was a huge success even with the terrible weather. This year the
sun came out and so did the crowds. At any time during the day 500
to 800 people surrounded the area to watch a stunning display of
riding from the skiing and boarding fraternity.
Modules
were crafted into the hill including
three rails, two quarter pipes, three
massive gap jumps, a pool and quarter pipe wall at the base. Riders
could take as many runs as they liked in a two-hour period and were
awarded points on each module from the judges. Twenty riders were
then picked for the final where they were given two runs each to
determine the final positions.
 DJ's
played from 9am through the day pumping out 4000 watts across the
valley! A big ice bar and barbeque were set up
at the foot of the course. Flying Mice and various other characters
added colour and to a great event enjoyed by all. The pool provided
some good entertainment with riders trying to outdo each other until
a few riders ended up very wet.
Extreme Drinks, Quicksilver
Sport shop in Meribel, The Rond Point and Pepon Clothing Company,
kindly sponsored the event.
Prize
money of 3000 euros was on offer along with 3 pairs of skis, two
snowboards and other clothing prizes. The event also hosted a party
later on with 400 people making the trip down the valley to be entertained
by Dj's and a Roots and Raga band through the night to 4.30am. Around
25 barrels of beer were consumed along with countless cans of Extreme
energy drink!
The
competition was held in memory of Greg Hubert (Dedern) who sadly
lost his life in an avalanche, He was
a great inspiration to his many friends with his energy and freedom
of spirit. It is because of him that
the Dedern event was born.
