Sheffield
stop
Before the tour got to Castleford for the finals there was one more
stop to make at Sheffield Ski Village.
As usual it was a jam with the top six in each category going through
to a 2 run slopestyle final, preceeded by the Oakley Big Air on
the halfpipe. The standout in snowboard was Mark Hartley, who just
about made one and took home the Wisdoms. The ski big air was also
close but local lad Will Burrows walked away with the Oakleys.
The
standard of the finals was arguably the best all tour so the judges,
as always, had a tough time. In ski, the Animal Ice Maidens girls
winner was Becky Hammond, Magic under 18's went to Will Burrows
and the Neilsons mens went to Joe Blackwell. In snowboard the Animal
Ice Maidens girls comp went to Lydia Aincroft, Magic under 18's
was Pete Helliwell and Neilson mens went to Mark Hartley in a very
tight call with Matt Gibson.
The Castleford finals
So, on to Castleford and the main event of the Grand finals, which
were preceeded by one more Oakley Big Air comp. Everyone had a go
at winning the brand new Oakley MP3 playing Thump sunglasses but
n the end they went to skier Will Burrows for a variety of tricks.
Snowboarder Paul Rennie brought his skills to the kicker and took
a pair of Wisdom's home with him.
The
finals kicked off with the girls. The first runs were all solid
with Becky Hammond and Shelly Jones leading the way, but Becky Hammond
walked away with the win and a stack of goods. In the Magic under
18's the first run standouts were Mike Nur and Will Burrows but
young Murray Buchan stepped it up to take the title and a pair of
Armada skis.
This
just left the Neilsons mens event. Throughout the day Swiss Mark
had been dominating all the obstacles with switch rails and switch
540's and was going to be hard to beat, however it took one clean
run including a switch rail to switch to 540 to clean rail at the
bottom for Andy Collin to take the title as well as a pair of Armada
Skis and a holiday for two from Neilson Active Holidays.
Snowboard comp
The park was set up as a jibbers dream. In the girls section a surprise
appearance from Laura Berry piled the pressure on, but Clare Roach
had that little bit more and pulled a huge back flip off the kicker
and a smooth 5050 down the big rail to take first place and all
the goodies.
Next
up was the Magic under 18's - the standout and deserved winner was
Justin Thompson. NBR favourite In the Neilsons mens comp Steve Owen
was ripping rails as ever while Joe Sandy pushed as hard as he could.
However, the winner was a rider who conducted himself quietly and
professionally all night. With no fuss and good, solid clean runs
Ben McHugh won the Neilson Mens comp.
Thank you to everyone
