The British team stamped their mark in the Big Air event
at the 2004 Junior World Snowboarding Championships
in yesterday, with Tyler Chorlton and Laura Berry finishing 7th
in their respective competitions.
7th for Chorlton and Berry
Tyler, who turned 18 this week, qualified for the 10 man finals
in 3rd position and was narrowly pushed down to 7th in a 90 strong
field with a cab 900, frontside 900 and backside 720.
In the ladies competition, Laura Berry, 15, who
like Tyler won the British Slopestyle
Championships a few weeks ago, narrowly missed out on the finals
and finished a credible 7th with a backside 360 and frontside 540.
The other British competitors all managed to finish
in the top 50% of the field, this is Britain's best team performance
to date at the Junior World Championships.
Good performance from Ben Kilner
Today's event was Halfpipe, but due to injury in the Big Air
the main British hopes of Dom Harington and Kieran Burchell had
to withdraw, leaving 15 year old Ben Kilner to compete against top
World Cup performers. As yet an unconfirmed placing of 30th is an
excellent result from the 90 strong field.
Saturday is Snowboardercross, where Zoe Gillings
hopes to continue her recent World Cup success and improve on her
4th place from last years event.
