CHAMJAM CANCELLED

06 February 2004

News has just reached Natives that the ChamJam, which over the last few years had grown to be one of Europe’s best known winter freestyle sport and music festivals, has cancelled this year’s event.

The withdrawal of one of the key sponsors at the last minute was a fatal blow to the event. Archie Hamilton, ChamJam organiser told Natives: “We always had our work cut out this year after Chamonix’s refusal to continue supporting the ChamJam. Despite the enthusiastic support of everyone here in Soldeu and some excellent sponsors we were unable to fit all the pieces together in time to run the quality of event that people have come to expect."

"Rather than risk damaging the reputation of the event, the sponsors and the resort by running a substandard festival, I decided the best strategy would be to postpone. The ChamJam will be back in full force, and we are really looking forward to relaunching in the Pyrenees. See you in 2005!”

To give the above some sort of background, some visitors to Natives may be unaware that the town of Chamonix effectively sabotaged the music side of the event last year by closing down the Cirque du ChamJam - a massive music tent, that had previously been deemed acceptable to the Mairie and local police.

Boss des Bosses will go ahead on 17 March
Regular visitors will be pleased to read that the Boss des Bosses, the event that founded the ChamJam will go ahead as planned on 17 March. Watch out for more news about this Natives sponsored event in due course.
