LOVELY LES ARCS

01 February 2004

Snow snow snow and more snow...
Will it ever stop? This is seriously the best I have ever seen Les Arcs in 5 years. It started with rain a couple of weeks ago, but since then it's been consistently really cold, and snowing pretty solidly for the last 2 weeks. High winds and avalanche risk have meant that parts of resort have been closed for safety reasons, but everything's now back up and running, so lots of sweet fresh powder to find.

We've been making the most of the tree runs down around Vallandry (where you can still ride in a white out), plus taking advantage of a couple of sunny spells to ride from the top of the Grive down some pretty sweet couloirs, all the way down to Nancroix (the village below Vallandry), through people's gardens and jumping the garden walls. Great powder smiles all round.

Some of the Planet Subzero guys have been on a free avalanche awareness course, courtesy of New Generation ski school, who've just arrived in resort this season. Plus others have been on a two day seasonaires ski clinic, and making the most of the great snow with some off piste lessons. Looking forward to a heliskiing trip this sunday. Can't wait!

Party time
The Snowbombing board and music festival has arrived in Arc 1800 this week, with a huge line up of top riders competing for holiday prizes on the big air jumps, plus loads of great bands and DJs to keep everyone entertained at night. The standard's been pretty high all round, with local wild card entry, Stevo (from Ski Beat in Vallandry) setting the pace.

With hundreds of people out in resort, the atmosphere's been brilliant, and in spite of some bleary eyes, with everyone trying to enjoy both the good snow and the good night life, the Vallandry crew have making the trek to 1800 pretty much every night. Reports have all been good and Thursday night is set to be a big one.

Planet Subzero news
Everyone's settled into life in the Les Arcs chalets with remarkable ease (hard life!), and are getting on really well as a group. It's hard to believe a whole month has gone by, as we've been keeping so busy with riding every day, plus enjoying some big nights out ... including the Arpette raclette night and torchlit descent last week, Tuesday nights' Marlu extravaganza, plus seasonaires drum and bass and curry night (strange mix, but it works!) every Wednesday in the Mont Blanc.

The Planet Survivor Challenge is on ... how long can the guys keep going on nothing but fresh powder, beer, and 3 hours sleep a night? Watch this space.
