The
2003-2004 winter season may only be in its early days, but the British
snowsports scene has already seen one of the largest events to be
staged this season. With over 1000 attendees at the Midlothian Ski
Centre, Edinburgh, over the 14-15 November we may well have witnessed
the world's largest ever dryslope event.
BUDS
2003 boasted a very strong field of competitors as well as a comprehensive
entertainment package that kept the atmosphere both on and off the
slope truly unmistakable. DJs played live sets slopeside whilst
Chris Nicoll (Sketch) stepped up to the plate and entertained the
crowd as MC. The beats and sounds provided a perfect backdrop for
Friday's slopestyle and slalom races (FULL RESULTS).
Line
clean up in Big Air
Saturday saw the ante being upped with the promise of a fiercely
contested Big Air comp. With last year's introduction of the pro-am
having been such a success the likes of the Nike ACG Pro Ski Team
were looking forward to stomping some tricks and getting their hands
on the cash prizes.
Against a backdrop of several hundred spectators
and beats that could have been heard in Glasgow the showdown began.
The skiers were treated to a truly breathtaking competition, with
Paddy Graham (LINE) and Murray Buchan (LINE) coming out on top.
Paddy's corked 7 was enough to see him walk away with a £250
cash prize.
Howie
top Boarder
Meanwhile the boarders closed the show in a display that once again
saw some of the UK's best young talent on display. The spoils deservedly
went to Craig Howie, pulling a rodeo 5 that turned the volume up
a few more notches.
Glasgow
team winners
Tom Brown's many visits to the podium at prize-giving saw him collect
everything from an Xbox to a pair of LINE skis but his efforts for
Cardiff Uni couldn't quite match the overall performance by Glasgow,
who walked away with the team prize.
Partying
Having wrapped up the competition side of the event in some style
800 students arrived at the Royal Highland Showgrounds for the awards
dinner, partying on until 3am to more pounding beats.
