NIKITA SNOW GIRLS

17 September 2003

Us chicks have a hard time trying to keep pace with the guys. For some reason we just can't seem to go as big or as gnarly, and sometimes being one of the only girls in the park just plain sucks. This weekend at Snow Park the Nikita Jam was an event aimed to promote female confidence in the park with coaching from NZ and International top female riders, prizes, BBQ plus a chance for girl riders to rip with other equally rad girl riders.

The weekend was blessed with perfect conditions, blue skies and even a freshies run first thing on Saturday morning - and I thought we were doing freestyle?? Coaching was split up between those who wanted to improve in pipe and those who wanted to conquer rails. The whole style of the weekend was very laid back, no pressure to do anything you might not want to - but for those who wanted to push themselves the encouragement and good advice was there by the bucket load.

Just to make sure we were all fully inspired some of the World's top female names Stine Brun Kjeldaas, Lesley McKenna and Tina Birbaum were also present filming the forthcoming - all female snowboard movie Dropstitch due for release in 2004.

"Nikita is very excited in establishing a camp for girls with SnowPark's debut session. Nikita looks forward to developing the camps and working hand in hand with Snow Park in the future," says NZ Nikita distributor Eddie Spearing.

Two full days went far too quickly for my liking. I learnt a lot, made new riding buddies, my confidence in park has increased, my wardrobe is re-stocked with heaps of Nikita goodies and most significantly I have memories of a really fun and productive few days. Maybe next year it'll be a bit longer.....

Thanks to all the Snow Park coaches Leanne, Alisha, Julianne, Abby, Hayley and especially Shazza who got me ripping in the pipe and to Eddie Spearing who organised the event. See you next year guys!!!

The Nikita Girls Jam 2003 being the first of its kind was a raging success, we will be having many more camps like this in the future so keep checking the Snow Park's website for dates for next winter www.snowparknz.com You can also e-mail girls@snowparknz.com
