MORE FLIGHT CHAOS AS STRIKES LOOM

19 June 2003

Flights to and from France are set to be disrupted once again due to yet more strike action in the country. Public sector unions are due to stop work at 6pm local time tonight in a row over pension reforms by the Government.

UK airlines affected
Ryanair has cancelled two flights, while EasyJet intended to operate a normal schedule to and from France today. Disruption is possible, however, as a result of the strike action which may place restrictions on air travel. British Airways said it expected delays but had not cancelled any flights. Passengers are also advised to allow plenty of additional time to get to French airports as public surface transport will be extremely limited.

Greece striking at same time
To add to the confusion, Greek Air Traffic Controllers are set to strike for 24 hours from midnight local time tonight, causing disruption to flights to and from the country. Operators have started to make contingency plans to accommodate the strike, including changing flight programmes to depart before or after the strike period.
