With
only 8 days to go now until the 14th
Boss des Bosses anticipation is building as each resort finalises
its team.
Competing this year are teams
of resort workers from Zermatt, Val d'Isere, Chamonix, Meribel,
Courchevel and Val Thorens.
The
Crowd
The atmosphere on the hill for
the Boss des Bosses was the highlight of last year's ChamJam and
this year should be no exception, with coaches coming from all the
the competing resorts, plus also Morzine and La Plagne.
Turnout is expected to number around
500 workers, who will party the night away later in the dedicated
ChamJam marquee, with live music and footage of the day's events
before prize-giving. For information on coaches, check the Boss
page.
The Teams
Courchevel
- The surprise package of last year, sharing the trophy with Meribel
on their debut, this year Courchevel are again led by Natives sponsored
rider, Pat Sharples. Dunsire
shows his versatility by swapping this year to tele's, while last
year's injured Rob Artois this time competes. Flexiski Rich is also
a debutant this year, but the man to watch out for is Benoit, THE
telemark skier (so they say!)
Zermatt - The winners of 2001 and 2000 are angling for revenge
this year! Team manager Chris Patient has been organising the team
for the Boss for over 10 years and knows what's required. With young
rippers like Mark Harris and the experience of Jurg Biner, plus
the team behind the Trijfti
Bump Bash behind them, Zermatt go into the event with plenty
of confidence that they will win back their crown.
Val Thorens - Little is known
of the VT team, who will be making their debut in the competition.
All we can be sure of is that they will be led by Skiworld Rick
and have a few scandies in their team. As current holders of the
Natives Workers Challenge team boarder and skier titles, they are
keen to add the Boss to their trophy cabinet.
Chamonix
- At the time of printing (?), absolutely nothing was known of this
team, but watch out - you only need to whistle in Chamonix to come
up with fantastic skiers! You know what they say about the quiet
ones...
Val d'Isere - This team sounds like they should be stars.
This year's captain is Alex P ('rude boy with all the toys'), ably
supported by Alex S ('hucker and sticker fiend'), Graham H ('famous
mincer'), Chalet Carrie ('horsey bird who drinks oceans'), Kurt
Francis ('wannabe porn star') and Giles Lewis ('powder junkie and
bodybuilder')
Meribel - After missing 2001,
Meribel came back with a vengeance last year, sharing the title
with 3V neighbours, Courchevel. Team captain Adam Johnston is putting
together a strong team for 2003, which includes Magic instructors
Raoul and Eric, plus Tommy Trouble from Auz.
We have been asked to give a special
mention to one of last year's team, Gregoire, who was tragically
killed earlier this year in an avalanche. The Meribel team will
be skiing for him.
