Natives.co.uk Award Winner
Thomas (Tom) Walsh, born 21/12/93, was presented the Natives.co.uk sponsored “Most Promising Young Racer” award by skiing to a consistently high level both in training and racing by the coaching staff at Gloucester Ski Club. Tom, aged 9, has raced slalom, both on dry slope and snow beating both children and adults with his speed and skill.

Coached by Nigel Street (BASI Instructor) and Hedley Beavis (BASI Instructor and APCI coach), he achieved the following results throughout 2002:

Results so far
March 16th, Avemore: In his first ever race on snow, Tom came third winning bronze in the Hazel Bain Trophy for his age group, coming 12th overall out of 67 racers. Unfortunately, Tom skied out of both the Welsh Celtic Cup races at Pontypool in May, and of the Gloucester Club National in early June.

Celtic Cup round 3, on July 6th, saw Tom win Silver in his age group and finished in an overall position of 78th. In rounds 5 and 6 at Llandudno, Tom finished 5th in his age group.

Summer successes
Throughout the summer Tom really improved quickly, winning a bronze in the Welsh National and three gold’s and a silver in the Jarvis Hotels sponsored Summer Race League. Tom finished the year by winning his age group of 21 racers in the final Summer Race League meeting, coming 34th from 107 racers, and thus helping Gloucester Ski Club to be the first team ever to win all six rounds of the Summer Race League.

Natives wishes Tom all the best for the coming season.
