So it's all going well...
Les Deux Alpes is in full swing now
that the middle of the season hits us!!! Life has been very hectic
in resort with a lot going on and the town packed with french, as
the parisians begin their month of holidays!! Which also means that
there is a lot of stuff getting nicked and quite a bit of agro at
night, but don't let this put you off, there are plenty of places
to escape to.
Snow Conditions
The snow conditions in resort at the moment are unbelievable, with
a great snow base all the way down to resort and skiing available
all the way down to Venosc (supposedly). After 3 or 4 weeks of at
least 1 decent dump a week (Over a foot at resort level each time!!)
we have had 8-10 days of pure blue skies, and the skiing / boarding
has been unreal !!!! The pistes have never been better all season
(possibly the last 3!!) and all the snow has allowed the pisteurs
to concentrate on the park.
The snow park is fully built and shaped with
the 1/2 pipe in very good condition nd all the kickers and spines
fully operational, if not slightly big!!!!! In fact the big air
is HUGE!!!! There are some incredibly good riders in resort, making
the most of the huge jumps with backside 540's, 720's etc. with
the chilled out atmosphere of the seating area being a perfect place
to chill out, catch some rays and watch some HUGE air's!!!!! La
Grave is has been fully open for over a month now and is supposed
to be some of the best riding in resort.
Resort News
Corrigans staff were
back on top form the other night all wearing evening dresses for
their cross-dressing night, which was hilarious. There is definatly
a good buzz in and round resort with everyone happy at the snow
conditions, although it has had a decided effect on the social side
of things, with a lot of people either being too knackered or too
skint to be going out in the evenings. Smokey
Joe's food is still top notch, and the staff are coping well
with Chris and Miranda's (Owners) new arrival.Chris seems to be
enjoying life as a dad but also looks like he hasn't had a good
nights sleep in a month!!!!! Smithies
is still buzzing as the novelty of the new bar wears off, and every
sunday provide live music by Bluefunkt. Bar staff are always friendly
and up for it regularly visiting Avalanche
nightclub next door, after work. The Natives show love party at
Smithies was a big success, with the place packed to the rafters,
and everyone had a good time even if mos! t (including myself) cant
remember it.
Zanzibar (underneath
Avalanche) is still
the best place in resort for Hip Hop and R&B, although anyone that's
been there before will know that as soon as you walk in the door
you'll get screwed by everyone else in there. Saying that, a couple
of brandy and cokes later they ignore you and you can sit back and
relax to the awesome scratching and music. The place is a lot lighter
han a couple of years ago though, so the chilled out atmosphere
isn't quite as chilled as it used to be, and isn't quite as smokey
as it used to be !!!??!!! L'Opera
night club are still running the free bus after the pubs turf you
out, and usually its quite busy in there with regular theme nights
and the legendary Flugels, Stuart from Smokey
Joe's being the big time addict!!!! The music's good and the
people are friendly, with the bus ride quite often being one of
the most amusing parts of the evening.
The Secret Bar is a good
place to enjoy a bit of après with live music must afternoons and
their wet t-shirt competition has become legendary, with various
seasonairres entering for the prize of a brand new snowboard!!!!
As everyone knows Karaoke is constantly a good crack, and the Red
Frog doesn't fail to please. Tuesdays are their sing along nights
and, oh my god, its busy. Classic tunes, shame about the singing!!!
Still the best place to watch the english football, although after
our dismal display against the Aussies I've given up wasting my
time!!! Luckily we have the 6 nations to look forward over the next
7 weeks, so maybe we will have a chance of winning something!!!!
(& we stuffed the French, SWEET!!!!)
Lots and lots and lots of students...
Everyone is starting to gear up for the arrival of the British championships
in the last week of march, which should give the resort a nice lift.
And then the following week we have 2000 students descending on
resort as BUSC run its annual trip here. Freshers week all over
again, and although things are going to be mayhem, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!
Hope to see some of you out here soon.
