LA TANIA GOSSIP

4 February 2003

So that was January then...
January started with the midnight chimes of Big Ben (via Sky News), fireworks, dancing, snogging, an engagement and a serious amount of the standard La Tania alcohol abuse.

Sue and Sandy, La Tania residents and season veterans got engaged in the early hours of New Years Day - more Champagne required. Fresh snow followed the awful conditions that we ended the year with and this was followed with The Natives Show Love Party.

Things got back to a kind of reality until the first gig of the season by the legendary Shibboleth. The now, half German band with their new bassist rocked the place, my favourite being the Chilli Peppers Zephyr Song - who are playing in Paris on Feb 12th, a road trip is being planned!

General bad behaviour...
George returned from gigging with Bjorn Again (he's Bjorn) to swigging Absenthe from the bottle between every song. Tales of 6am drinking, roudiness of the worst kind, relationships starting or breaking up and strong disgreements with a holidaying police force all occurred.

Then came the snow. Over Christmas and New Year the talk had been of how the mega Winter of 98/99 started poorly too - this time, just maybe, we're getting there. Towards the end of the month the snow cover gradually increased and 5 days of almost continuous snow lead to fantastic conditions.

Tim turns fourty...
Finally on 30th January, it was the proprietor of the Ski Lodge, Tim Wall's 30th birthday party. This started with a meal at Lodge du Village, folowed by speeches, champagne, the Ski Lodge Cocktail, more from Shibboleth, a stripper, then on to the Ski Lodge for more music from Mick & Paddy, another Ski Lodge Cocktail, heads or tails for every drink and the rest of the memory was of trying to leave a packed, hot, sweaty pub through a cloud of steam into the outside temperature of minus 14C.

The huge, huge hangover on Friday morning was cured with lots of powder (and I don't mean Beachams Resolve), snow conditions are absolutely superb.

So that was January, always a quiet month.
