Massive
snowfall in Chamonix! 2.5 m of snow fell in one night on 23 January.
ChamJam 2003 looks set to have the best snow ever
World X-Games
Last year in excess of 5,000 spectators and competitors descended
on the biggest music, skiing and snowboarding festival Europe has
ever seen, where perfect days melted seamlessly into wild nights
partying to the likes of Ash, Zero 7 and Sancho Panza. Many will
be returning this year along with other big name artists, including
the infamous Krafty Kutz, Soul of Man, Lee Coombs and the world's
most versatile beatboxer, Killa Kela. All these and more will create
the perfect atmosphere for the pro/am skiers and snowboarders competing
in the only European leg of the World X-games.
Big Cash Prizes
ChamJam 2002 saw the crowds get involved with the carnival atmosphere
as the icons of the skiing and boarding world gave us something
to work towards - in our dreams! Danny Wheeler and Britain's own
Lesley McKenna took the big cash prizes in the Cool Water Snowboard
Big Air, while Boyd Easley and Marie Martinod soared their way to
victory in the Cool Water Skier Big Air. The smell of cold, hard
cash - $10,000 prize money - attracted some of the fiercest competition
to date.
Amateurs and Pros compete together
ChamJam is unique as the only snowsports event in Europe where amateurs
are able to compete on a level footing with professional sports
men and women. Because ChamJam is so widely showcased in the media
- shown on television in 72 different countries, including an hour
long special on British ITV - it has launched many amateurs into
the sphere of professional sports. From the 2nd-9th March 2003,
new amateurs will be strutting their stuff against the Big Boys
at ChamJam 2003 - competing in high-octane events from Skier-X to
Jib Jam to Big Air - and for 2003, seeing the return of the half-pipe
competition.
