STEAMBOAT NEWS

1 February 2003

Newsflash
There is a lot of things goin' on in Steamboat right now! We celebrated the resorts 40th anniversary, watched the Budweiser All-Star Aerial Show (huge big air show with fireworks) and in astonishment seen the best in the rodeo buisness competing in the 29th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill (a totally insane competition between a big bunch of first-time skiing cowboys trying to be the first one to ski down the hill, lasso a person, saddle a horse and cross the finish line...).

Then we started to load up our energy for "Rock the Rockies", a concert for around 500 invited guests with Papa Roach and the winner of the american competition "Battle of the Bands" - Midtown. A great concert with loads of action and a huge afterparty at one of the biggest places out; Levels. The day after, an even bigger party; Superbowl Sunday. Kind of hard for a foreigner to understand all the things that´s going on around a fotball game, but every reason for a party is a good reason!

Up next is the SOS (Snowboard Outreach Society) competitions in Halfpipe and Snowboardcross on the first two days of February, and the 90th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival, the oldest continuing Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi. For 5 days, the entire town is given over to racing, ski jumping, chariot racing, a parade featuring Steamboat?s skiing high school band (the only one in the U.S.), the famous ski jöring events down Lincoln Avenue and the spectacular night show featuring the legendary Lighted Man and fireworks display. The hosts of this event is Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, one of the largest and oldest winter sports clubs in the U.S. The carnival starts at 2/5/2003 and continues for five days.
