Silvester is just a memory, or rather a collection of memories, being updated by the day as people remind each other of what (or who) they were seen doing Costumes, drinks and fireworks (thankfully not in the form of flaming drinks this year) saw the New Year in in a way that the Austrians do with quite some gusto. The general revellry bounced from bar to bar all night and into the morning. Movie theme night kicked off in Bar Cuba - the costume winners are still working their way through their 100 flugerl prize as of Friday! We then moved on via a packed Kartouche, into a slightly calmer Kandahar [a rare phrase these days...Ed.] All nightspots exploded and it would be a five page essay to describe the night in full. All bars converged over midnight as the street party emerged over the midnight hour. New Year's day was certainly quiet, although some notable exceptions were seen in Cuba! Scotties continued the revellry two nights later with a Hawaiian Beach Party. Party Punches, Pineapple Vodkas and Vodka Jellies leaving some rather worse off than even new year ;-) The skiing (hmm always seems to come second in these reports ) After the weekend snow the new year has seen some brilliant conditions on piste and off. Beautiful clear cold skies left amazing skiing above middle stations, with home runs getting icy through the new year multitudes unfortunately. Another avalanche however in Stuben earlier this week claimed one, bringing a rather sadder note to the new year fun. As for celebrities, we may not be able to match Robbie, but we have had Alan Hansen and Kenny Dalglish sighted this week, which brings celeb count to four if you count Right Said Fred, seen bopping in Kartouche at the beginning of the season. Look out for news of the Natives Party coming soon [Bar Cuba, 20 Jan] plus a rather large number of birthdays coming up too! Ein gute Rutsch ins neue Jahr! Cheers all, Alastair Report from Alastair Vaan
