RIP CURL FREESKI PRO RETURNS TO HOTHAM

Following the success of last year's inaugural Rip Curl Freeski Pro at Mount Hotham, the specialty freestyle skiing event is set to strike back bigger and better in 2002.

Woody Bouma - Photo (c) James Vernon - freerideculture.comThe 2nd annual Rip Curl Freeski Pro will be held at Mount Hotham from August 5-8, withan international field, including defending champion, Canadian Chris Ebbern, Lauri Lassila from Finland, USA's Steele Spence, and Tignes' resident Aussie, Woody Bouma.

Competitors will contest three main disciplines over the four day event window - Sportwool Terrain Park, Ansell Big Air, and the Life Savers Half Pipe - with $7500 AUD in prizemoney up for grabs.

"Last year's event had a top class field and I was super surprised to win," said defending champion Ebbern. "I'm really pumped for this year", he added.

Defending girl's champion and rising teen sensation Davina Williams said, "My preparation is going really with lots of dry land training and gym work. Mount Hotham is a steep mountain which is great, and the event is going to be lots of fun this year for sure".

Freeskiing (on the off-chance you didn't know) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world at the moment, with recent technological developments spawning a new generation of acrobatic new school skiers.
