The Chamjam,
which started 11 years ago as a renegade mogul skiing
competition between the ski resorts of Chamonix and
Val d'Isère, has this year moved into the big league.
Now one of Europe's most respected
and innovative winter freesports competitions, in March
2001, the Chamjam will see hundreds of professional
and amateur riders gather on the legendary Grands Montets
for a week's competition in big air, half-pipe and boarder
cross events.
Coverage of this year's event
will also be better than ever. Anyone watching the BBC
coverage of the Ski World Championships will already
have seen the competition that Ski Sunday are
running to win two all expenses paid holidays to the
event. This will culminate with a 15 minute segment
featuring the Chamjam on the previously staid TV favourite,
now repositioning itself to reflect a younger audience.
In addition to coverage on C5
program, The Chill Factor, and on satellite (The Extreme
Channel, Sports Unlimited and Transworld Sport), the
other big news this year is that Jo Whiley from
Radio 1 will be carrying live reports from the slope
on Thursday 8th March, with both Ash and Hybrid
playing live on the mountain.
The event runs for four days and
alongside the action on the mountain, live acts from
across Europe will be playing including Roni Size
and Leftfield.
Natives will be there of course.
The Boss des Bosses, the orginal competition
behind the Chamjam, features a mogul competition between
teams from Chamonix, Verbier, Zermatt, Meribel and Val
d'Isere, all of whom will be supported by workers from
each resort. This is a fantastic day out and will coincide
with the Jo Whiley broadcast. Watch out for details
of coaches in your resort coming soon. This is going
to be a great day out!
