 Goetschl crashes 


After the excitement of having Edward 'member of the house Windsor' at the opening ceremony, the Ski World Championships started with disappointment for the Austrians in the Women's Super G.

Favourite Renate Goetschl was flying down the course when she crashed out in spectacular fashion, leaving Regine Cavagnoud of France to take the first gold medal of the Championships.

Second place was claimed by Isolde Kostner of Italy and the Bronze medal by Hilder Gerg of Germany.

Tomorrow sees the Men's Super G, with Hermann Maier, local hero, the red-hot favourite to win.

Two years ago, he tied the Super G with Lasse Kjus of Norway, with less than 30cm between the two of them. Tomorrow Austria expects....
