Keystone opened for the 2000/01
season on the 28 October and a further 2 runs and lifts
opened on the 3 November. Three runs and three lifts are
now open for skiing and snowboarding. During this week Keystone
hopes to open top to bottom terrain.
A storm hit the area at Halloween
and dumped several inches of new snow. "Everyone's celebrating
the official start of winter" said Margie Bootenhof, vice
president of marketing told Natives. Keystone is one of
the few resorts currently open in the States.
Nearby Breckenridge also opened
for the season on Friday 3 November. The resort has an 18
inch base of machine made snow. A further 8 inches of snow
fell in the previous 24 hours making excellent conditions
for the opening. The resort opened Peak 9's Upper Columbia
and Lower Sundown runs serviced by the Beaver Run Super
Chair.
Vail also received a major
fall last week with over a foot of fresh snow having fallen.
Coupled with the snow from the previous week, there is now
a foot and a half base at Mid-Vail. Vail is scheduled to
open on November 17.
