Young
snowboarders from Wanaka and Queenstown dominated
the Casio G-Shock Grommets Championships at Cardrona
Alpine Resort last weekend.
Riders for the
Southern Alps Snowboarding team, which trains at Cardrona,
took a third of all places in the Boardercross and
the GS, as well as 7 out of 10 places in the Halfpipe.
Crispin Lipscomb,
who trains a group of the SAS boarders, said, "they
were a storm, a trampling of young magnets, an onslaught
of talent. They trained well and were ready mentally,
physically and tactically."

18 year old Jah
Harris, currently the NZ Junior National Champion,
won all three events in his age group. He put his
success down to his attitude. "I was mainly just having
fun."
11 year old Kendall
Brown displayed similar tough talking after winning
the Boardercross and Halfpipe: "I decided I was going
win and I did." Scary to think what an attitude can
do for you - even for pre-teens...
