NZ UPDATE: COLIN SLATER

29 June 2001

Finally it's started to snow on a more regular basis. I had a bit of a slide on the North Island I ski-fields during the week, they weren't too flash as these both require 1m+ to cover the volcanic rock but they were OK.

They have been getting snow the last few nights and there's a southerly change on the way which should help top it up.

Down South Hutt received a good drop and by all accounts it was the usual nice snow with a crust on top at the end of the snowfall from the NW wind change. Ah well can't have it all...hopefully it will stay sufficiently cold for it to consolidate into a good base off trail.

I was also told that the bumper edge repair season had kicked off, this is a Hutt phenonemon where as soon as they get about 40cm of snow everyone piles off trail and hits the world's nastiest small sharp rocks which blow edges like you wouldn't believe. At about $100 for a decent edge repair it's all on!
