NZ UPDATE - CHRIS LOFTUS |
18 June 2001 |
|
Despite the rather optimistic snow reports broadcast on QT's local radio stations the facts of the matter are that a considerable amount of midweek rain coupled with warm weather has conspired to not only mess up the existing cover but also prevent the folks up on Coronet Peak from making any of the articicial stuff. I came down off the mountain early yesterday as the slush, soil patches, rain and mist were somehow spoiling my enjoyment! But let us not get too downhearted, it is still very early season, snow is forecast (it always is), The Remarkables are due to open next Saturday (23rd) and if all else fails there is some great mountain biking on offer. Or the pub.

Week
two of the season for the Southern Hemisphere boarders
and skiers has unfortunately finished with the slopes
in pretty poor shape. As the week began we needed cooler
temperatures and snow and it pains me to say that what
we got was milder temperatures and rain!
