CLIFFHANGER 2007 - An Outdoor Event for Outdoor People

14-15 July 2007

CliffhangerCLIFFHANGER is the UK’s largest outdoor outdoor-pursuits festival, covering a footprint of 90,000 square metres in Sheffield’s biggest green space.

Amongst the many features to watch out for, the stand out attraction will be the British Bouldering Championships – the first ever outdoor climbing competition in the UK.

With competitors and spectators from across the country it will be a great day out for outdoors lovers from all around the country.

WHAT'S ON?

Bouldering at its bestThe British Bouldering Championships
The UK’s best and strongest climbers will be invited to take part in this British Mountaineering Council (BMC) run event, battling it out on a collection of overhanging, free-standing, man-made wooden boulders.

Held over both days of the weekend event (qualification on Saturday, final on Sunday), competitors and spectators alike will be lured by the accolade of competing in and being inspired by the UK’s first outdoor bouldering competition, the internationally recognised name of Sheffield amongst the climbing population, and, of course, prize money.

Record attemptGuinness World Record Dyno Competition
In April 2002 the first officially recognised Guinness World Dyno Records were set in an indoor climbing wall in Sheffield. Since then similar competitions have been held in New Zealand, Birmingham, Manchester the USA and elsewhere, all indoors.

At Cliffhanger, this record will be challenged once again, back in the city in which it was first set, but this time outdoors. The competition will take place over both days of the event and will be open to the public and professional rock climbers alike, with a world record attempt at the end of each day.

Come-And-Try-It Climbing Walls
Try out these temporary climbing walls - a climbing wall with auto belays, a bouldering wall and a Rock and Roll caterpillar track style climbing wall. This wall revolves continually, changing steepness until the climber/s fall off a few feet onto a soft mat.
